3rd Annual Hair of the Dog | Oktoberfest Benefits Mans Best Friend

Posted

STASH has gone to the dogs! STASH hosts their 3rd annual Hair of the Dog | Oktoberfest from 6-9:30pm, on Friday, Oct. 6th in East Downtown Norman. Featuring nine Oklahoma breweries those included in the festivities are: 405 Brewery, Black Mesa Brewery, COOP Ale Works, Crossed Cannons Brewery, Iron Monk Brewery, Lazy Circles Brewery, Prairie Artisan Ales, The Brewhouse and Twisted Spike Brewing.

Tickets include admission to the festival, and 6 beer tastings. Tickets are on sale now for $15 in advance, and $20 day of the event, VIP tickets are $25. Tickets may be purchased online at stashok.com, in person at STASH, or by calling the store at (405) 701-1016.

Funds raised from the Hair of the Dog will be used to provide animal care for residents at the Women’s Resource Center (WRC). The center is building a space for pets to stay with their owners. This is a new service provided to give clients of the center more choices when leaving an abusive situation.

“Previously, women and families were faced with the decision to flee without their pets. We believe that pets are part of the family and should never have to be left behind. STASH is proud to join forces with these fine breweries to raise money for pet deposits, vet bills and other needs that help families keep the animals they love in safety in new homes,” says Rebecca Bean, STASH owner.

“We are thrilled to partner with STASH to start providing this service as a part of a new beginning for victims,” says Courtney Foster, Assistant Executive Director, Women’s Resource Center. “We are excited about this event because it addresses one of the biggest barriers that victims of domestic and sexual violence have, many refuse to leave their pets behind with an abuser in fear they will hurt or kill their animal so they will not leave the dangerous situation at all. But now WRC shelter residents will have more choices and be able to live in safety knowing their beloved animals will be with them and safe.”

"We love being a part of the Oklahoma beer scene and we appreciate events like STASH's Hair of the Dog because they truly support local breweries,” says Dave Monks, Co-Founder of Iron Monk Brewing Company in Stillwater.

STASH invites locals to bring well-behaved pets to this pet-friendly event. “We want everything we do to be an inclusive, good time for all,” says Holly Jones, STASH manager.

Local artist, Debra Hogue, specializing in pet portraiture will be on hand for pet sketches with a suggested minimum donation of $5, all proceeds benefitting the night’s fundraiser. Locals are welcome to bring a picture of their pets or for those well behaved and enjoy crowds are welcome to join the fun.

Lovers of local craft beer and furry friends came together to raise funds and awareness at our Hair of the Dog | Summerfest (2016) & Oktoberfest (2015), both events were a huge success and have raised $20K! All donations go towards a local non-profit animal rescue; past recipients include The Bella Foundation, 2016; and Safe Haven Animal Rescue, 2017.

Tickets may be purchased online at stashok.com, by calling the store at (405) 701-1016, or in person at STASH. STASH specializes in American-made, and ethically produced wares, gifts, & art. Visit the shop at 412 E. Main St., Norman.

adopt me

On January 18th, one of STASH’s owners, Rebecca, rescued a very desperate momma dog from the Norman Animal Shelter. She was “due any minute”, and it was a holiday weekend, so chances were, Momma would give birth alone, in a cold and dirty concrete cage. We took her home, gave “Cita” (short for “Mamacita”) a bath, and tried to fatten [...]
